Bus Route Operation Types

Route Classification

To efficiently provide our mass transport service, we have classified our routes into
1. Intra City
2. Inter City
3. Inter Urban or Rural Urban

Intra City

This is the type of service bus service for highly congested and non-congested arears in the cities with high frequency and many stops. i.e. bus operations on the a route not extending more than 40km. This is the core business of MMT and covers about 50% of operational activities. E.g operations within Accra, Takoradi, Kumasi, Tema.

Characteristics

1. High frequency preferably a 10 minutes frequency.
2. Scheduled Service
3. Distance or coverage does not extend above 40km in one direction
4. Has many bus stops along route
5. Low fares which is segmented or graduated

Inter City

This is bus operation connecting two cities extending a distance of 140km. E.g Tamele - Kumasi, Accra - Ho and Cape Coast - Accra.

Characteristics

1. Low or Limited frequency
2. Constant frequency
3. Regular flow of passengers
4. Distance or coverage extends 140km in one direction

Inter Urban / Rural Urban

This is a kind of bus operation linking rural arears to urban centers ( usually on rough roads with low constant frequency. This kind of operation opens up villages and districts for socio-economic activities i.e. routes usually in Upper West, Upper East, Northern, Ashanti and Eastern Region of Ghana. This covers about 35% of operations
